The Cripple Creek Turquoise mine is located in Teller County Colorado near the town of Cripple Creek. Discovered as a byproduct of gold mining operations, the mine is known for producing a very hard, beautiful turquoise with a unique "Bertis blue" color, ranging from blue to green, often with a light brown, dark brown, or even rare golden matrix. Mining of the Florence Load Claim, a key site for Cripple Creek turquoise, continues today on a small scale.
